Christmas lights for your Windows taskbar, and snow on your desktop

GlowDrop hangs a string of softly glowing bulbs along the top of your taskbar and lets snow fall on your desktop. The snow settles on top of your windows and the taskbar in small drifts, and melts away when it stops. Your mouse clicks pass straight through.

Windows 10 (1903 or later) and 11, 64-bit.

GlowDrop: Holiday Lights and Snow for Your Windows Taskbar and Desktop

What GlowDrop does

  • Ten bulb designs

C9 and C7 bulbs, mini lights, globes, stars, snowflakes, icicles, flames and fairy lights, or a mixed string.

  • Nine colour sets, or your own

Classic warm, multicolour, cool white, minimal, icy blue, candy cane, gold and pastel, or up to six colours of your own from a colour picker or a hex code.

  • Four animations

Steady, twinkle, chase and slow fade, in three sizes, with speed, brightness and spacing.

  • Bulbs that move aside

Bulbs near your pointer swing away on their cable and settle back, so the taskbar icons stay easy to reach. They can also dim instead, or stay still.

  • Snow that settles

Light, gentle or heavy snowfall on the open desktop. Flakes stop at the first window below them, drifts build up on top edges, and a quick shake of the pointer makes a burst of snow.

  • Every display

Each display with a taskbar gets its own string, with the taskbar at the bottom, top or side, plus a second string along the top of the screen if you want one.

  • Off after the holidays

Hidden while a video, game or presentation is full screen. It turns itself off after 6 January and comes back on 1 December, or on the days you pick.

Who it is for

  • Anyone who decorates for the holidays and spends December at a Windows PC
  • People who want a festive screen that stays out of the way of their work
  • Windows users who have seen holiday light apps on the Mac

Questions

Is there a Festivitas for Windows?

Festivitas is a holiday lights app for Apple devices: the Mac, iPhone and iPad. GlowDrop is made for Windows 10 and 11, with lights along the taskbar and snow on the desktop.

Will it get in the way of games or videos?

It hides while anything is full screen. Clicks always pass through the lights and the snow, and on battery it can pause.

Does it slow down my PC?

Windows draws the lights and the snow itself, so steady lights take almost no processor time and twinkling or snow takes very little. It can also pause when you step away.

Can I keep the lights on after the holidays?

Yes. Turn off the end date in Settings and they stay on all year, or pick your own days.

Is this a subscription?

No. You pay once and keep it. Use it on all of your own computers, and every 1.x update is free.

Windows shows a blue warning when I install it.

GlowDrop comes from an independent developer and is not code-signed yet, so the first time you run the installer Windows may say "Windows protected your PC". Click More info, then Run anyway.
